  General Notes:

Sarrah George was recorded by the 1841 census living at Crooked Holm with her husband and children. She was in the 35-39 age group and had been born in Ireland. Her children were all born in Ayrshire.

The 1851 census for Barony parish in Glasgow recorded Sarah McGeorge as wife of Robert McGeorge, living at 1 Cameron's Court in the Anderston district with her five children and 2 lodgers. Both lodgers were single people, the first Susanna Duneen a steam loom weaver born in Greenock, and the second Robert Cochran a woolcomber's apprentice born in Kilmarnock. Sarah McGeorge herself was recorded as born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire and aged 45 years.

Sarah McGeorge was recorded by the 1861 census for Anderston living at 1-10 Cameron Court with her family and 3 boarders. Her age was recorded as 52 years and she was a power loom weaver. Her birthplace was recorded as Kilmarnock.

In the 1871 census Sarah McGeorge was recorded as 64 years of age and born in Kilmarnock.

Sarah became a widow in 1875.

In her death certificate of 1890 Sarah McGeorge was recorded as 'widow of Robert McGeorge engine keeper'. Her recorded age at death was noted as 83 years. The Poorhouse where she died was noted as her usual residence. 2 3 4 5 10 11

This form of the surname with its variant spellings and McDougall are essentially the same surname, with a different pronunciation in different contexts.

William Cove MD certified the cause of death.

The informant was Margaret Shearer, Sarah's daughter, of 91 Maitland Street, who gave notice of her mother's death before the registrar, Jas. Alex Ferguson, at Glasgow on 12 February 1890 and made her X mark. 2


Sarah married Robert McGEORGE, son of James McGEORGE (DNA Link) and Jane REID, on 16 October 1829 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (Robert McGEORGE was born about 1806 in Ireland or Minigaff, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland 3 4 and died 3 January 1875 at 1.40 pm in 6 North Street, Glasgow, Scotland 2 4 5 10 11.). The cause of his death was bronchitis senilis over 1 year.2
