This was the second child in the family whose given name included Mary.
The 1870 US census for Cranberry in Venango, Pennsylvania recorded Mary Cavenahg aged 3 years, and born in Pennsylvania, living with her parents and four brothers, three older than her and one, James, just a baby.
In 1880 the "Canavagh" family were living in the township of Fairview, in Butler, Pennsylvania. The US census of that year recorded Mary as aged 12 years and born in Pennsylvania. She had attended school within the census year. She had two older brothers, John and Ross, and three younger siblings, James and Susannah and Jane.
In her death certificate of 1935, Mary Alice Kilngensmith's residence was noted as 717 Homewood Avenue. She was recorded as 65 years old and the wife of Samuel S. Kilingensmith. Her father was named John Cavanagh and her mother as Jean Robertson. Both parents were recorded on this death certificate as born in Scotland. 3 7
