  General Notes:

In June 1916 William McKelvie, aged 18 years and 4 months, of 1 High Street, Newmilns, and a a lace shuttler by occupation, enlisted at Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, in the General Service Corps of the British Army. He was appointed to the H.L.I. In the record of his medical history William was recorded as 5 feet 8 and a quarter inches in height, and weighing 118 pounds. His chest measurement was 35 and a quarter inches with a 3 inch range of expansion. He had been vaccinated as an infant, and his physical development was normal. William qualified as a signaller, and in March was posted to Etaples in France, where he was wounded in action. Later, he contracted scabies and was sent to the infirmary but later rejoined his battalion. After the war ended, he remained in the army in the Scottish Rifles. 2
