Robert I 'the Bruce', King of Scots 1
Another name for Robert was DE BRUS, Robert Earl of Carrick.2 User ID: K28. General Notes: "Robert de Bruce, 'le jeune Comte de Carrick,' born 11 July 1274 ; he became Earl of Carrick 27 October 1292, on his mother's death and father's resignation of the title. On the death of his father in 1304 he became Lord of Annandale, and inherited the Garioch and other possessions in Scotland, certain lands in Durham, besides large English estates which came through his great-grandmother Isobel, daughter of David, Earl of Huntingdon. These estates were confiscated by Edward i. in 1306. Bruce also succeeded to the English Peerage of Baron Bruce, He was crowned King of Scots at Scone 27 March 1306, and died 7 June 1329." Robert married Isabella of Mar, daughter of Donald Earl of Mar and Susanna (or Helen?), about 1295.1 (Isabella of Mar was born about 1273 3 and died on 12 December 1296 3.) Marriage Notes: "He (Robert the Bruce) married, first, about 1295, Isabella, daughter of Donald, tenth Earl of Mar, by whom he had an only child. 1. Marjorie ..." Robert next married Elizabeth DE BURGH Queen of Scots, daughter of Richard DE BURGH Earl of Ulster and Unknown, in 1302.1 (Elizabeth DE BURGH Queen of Scots was born about 1289 4 and died in October 1327 in Cullen Castle, Banffshire, Scotland 1.) Marriage Notes: "King Robert married, secondly, in 1302, Elizabeth, daughter of Richard de Burgh, Earl of Ulster, who died at Cullen 26 October 1327, and was buried at Dunfermline" |
