General Notes: "Neil, second Earl of Carrick, who was also called Nicol and Nicolaus, was a great benefactor to the Church, particularly to the monasteries of Crossraguel, and to Sandale in Kintyre. A. commission was granted by Henry III. in 1255 for receiving Neil, Earl of Carrick, and other Scotsmen into his protection, and he was one of the Regents of Scotland, and Guardians of Alexander III. and his Queen, appointed in the English interest at a convention at Roxburgh, 20 September 1255." Neil married Isabel STEWART, daughter of Walter STEWART 3rd High Steward and Justiciar of Scotland and Beatrix.1 2 (Isabel STEWART was born about 1213.)
