Jean married James MURRAY 2nd Earl of Annandale, 3rd Viscount of Stormont, son of John MURRAY of Reidkirk, Earl of Annandale and Elizabeth SHAW, 26 June 1647(contract).1 (James MURRAY 2nd Earl of Annandale, 3rd Viscount of Stormont was born about 1617, died on 28 December 1658 in London, England 1 2 and was buried in Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire, Scotland 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

"James (Murray), Earl of Annandale, married Jean Carnegie, eldest daughter of James, second Earl of Southesk. Six months after her first husband's death, 14 July 1659, this lady married David, fourth Viscount of Stormont. She died in March 1671. Lord Annandale's titles of Earl of Annandale, Viscount Annan, and Lord Murray of Lochmaben became extinct upon his death, whilst those of Viscount of Stormont, Lord Scone, and Lord St. John of Torphichen in the County of Perth, devolved upon David, second Lord Balvaird."

"Jean (Carnegie), married, first (contract 26 June 1647), to James Murray, second Earl of Annandale. There was no issue of this marriage." (page 70)

"James Murray, second Earl of Annandale, who as son and heir of the deceased Earl of Annandale, formerly John Murray of Reidkirk, succeeded as third Viscount Stormont. He died in London 28 December 1658, and was buried at Ruthwell (will dated 28 November 1658), having married (contract dated at Leuchars 14 June 1647) Jean Carnegie, daughter of James, Lord Carnegie, afterwards Earl of Southesk, but by her, who married, secondly, David, Lord Balvaird, Annandale's successor in the titles of Stormont and Scone, he had no issue. The title passed to a descendant of William Murray of Letter Bannachty, a younger son of Sir David of Balvaird and Arngask" (pages 197 and 198)

  Marriage Notes:

"Jean (Keith) .... was married, secondly, on 9 August 1659 (contract 14 July 1659), to her cousin David, second Lord Balvaird and fourth Viscount Stormont." (page 70)

"Lord Stormont died 14 July 1668, 'being but a young man,' and was buried at Scone, having married, at Kinnaird, 9 August 1659, Jean, Countess-Dowager of Annandale, daughter of James, Earl of Southesk, and widow of the aforesaid James, Earl of Annandale, on whose death Lord Stormont succeeded not only to the titles above-mentioned, but to a great part of his estate, said to have been 12,000 merks a year, so that he 'gat both his estate and lady togither.' By her, who apparently died in March 1671, at Auchtermuchty, and was buried at Scone, he had issue an only son and two daughters" (pages 203 and 204)
