In the 1861 census for the parish of Methlick, May Hardie was the one of the children of William and Mary Hardie listed in the entry. Her birthplace was recorded as Methlick, Aberdeenshire, and her age as 5 years.

The 1871 census for Methlick parish recorded May Hardie, aged 15 years, working as a servant at Michelmuir. In fact she was a bit older than 15 years.

May Fowlie "Married to Alexander Fowlie Farm Servant" died in 1901 at the recorded age of 46 years. Her father was deceased by then.

On the family headstone in Methlick parish Churchyard, Aberdeenshire:
