Other names for James were INNES, James of Reidhall,6 INNES, James in Reidhall 5 and INNES, James of Fynnarsie (Findrassie).7 User ID: W154. General Notes: "James Innes was the son of Robert Innes of Cromy (that is Crombie, in the parish of Marnoch), who was the second son of Alexander Innes of that ilk (died 1491), armour-bearer to James III., by Janet Gordon, daughter of the first Earl of Huntly. James Innes of Rathmakenzie, who was his wife's cousin-german, fell at Pinkie, 1547, James married Catherine GORDON, daughter of William GORDON 1st of Gight and Janet OGILVY.1 2 3 (Catherine GORDON was born about 1500 and died by 1543 8.) Marriage Notes: "I think the 'Catherine Gordon of Gight,' who married James Innes of Rathmakenzie, as noted in the Familie of Innes (p. 201, and also in the Great Seal), was a daughter of the first laird, and may have been named after his half-sister, Lady Catherine Gordon, who married Perkin Warbeck." James next married Margaret INNES, daughter of James INNES of Leuchars and Unknown, after 24 May 1543.4 (Margaret INNES was born about 1522.) Marriage Notes: James Innes of Rothmackenzie got a charter of the lands of Cromie in 1542, and was afterwards designed of Cromie. He fell in the battle of Pinkie, 1547, having married, first, Catherine, a daughter of Sir William Gordon of Gight, and, secondly, his cousin, Margaret, daughter of Alexander Innes of that Ilk(see Note below), and Cristina Dunbar.
