"Walter Berclay (Towie XIII) succeeded his father John Berclay (Towie XII) in the year 1491. The Spalding Club have printed the charter of enquiry, on which he got sasine of the estates. It is abridged from the original which is in their possession, and runs as follows :-

'An enquiry was made at Tullyboyauchteran Collane (Cullen) before Patrick Stewart of Lathers, Deputy Sheriff of Banff. The Jurors include William Meldrum of Fyvie, George Meldrum of Petcarre, John Gordon of Petger, Robert Meldrum in Kynbrwne, John Meldrum and many others. ....."

William married Elizabeth BARCLAY, daughter of Walter BARCLAY of Towie and Unknown.1 (Elizabeth BARCLAY was born about 1435.)


  Marriage Notes:

"He (William Meldrum) is mentioned in an assedation of the tithes of Fyvie about 1475. David Abbot of Arbroath, let to an honourable man, William Meldrum of Fyvie and Elizabeth his spouse, and to the longer liver of them, all the tithes of the towns of Five, Meikle Gourdas, Little Gourdas, Haldauch, Sauchock, &c." ....
