DE MELDRUM, William 'of Petkary', then of Fyvie, Sir 1 2
User ID: W505. General Notes: "Sir William Meldrum, Knight" is named as one of a number of knights in the train of William, Earl of Douglas, in 1451. While his son William was alive then, the son is not usually refrred to as a knight. (page 120) William married Daughter PRESTON co-heiress of Fermartyn (Fyvie portion), daughter of Sir Henry DE PRESTOUN and Elizabeth LINDSAY.1 (Daughter PRESTON co-heiress of Fermartyn (Fyvie portion) was born about 1397.) Marriage Notes: "The appearance in record of this William both corrects and adds to existing accounts detailing the ownership and inheritance of the lordship of Fermartyn in the early 15th century and proves that it must, therefore, have been William Meldrum, and not, as has commonly been accepted, his son Alexander, that married one of the daughters and heirs of Sir Henry Preston, Lord of Fermartyn." |
