Margaret married James INNES of Rothmackenzie, then of Crombie, son of Robert INNES of Rothmackenzie and Margaret Ann MELDRUM, after 24 May 1543.1 (James INNES of Rothmackenzie, then of Crombie was born about 1500 and died on 10 September 1547 in Battle of Pinkie Cleugh, near Musselburgh, Midlothian, Scotland 4.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Robert (Innes, of Cromy and Rathmakenzie) had two sons: 1. James Innes of Rathmakenzie, married first to Catharine Gordon of Gicht, secondly to Margaret Innes, daughter of Laird Alexander(see Note below)."

from Familie of Innes

James Innes of Rothmackenzie got a charter of the lands of Cromie in 1542, and was afterwards designed of Cromie. He fell in the battle of Pinkie, 1547, having married, first, Catherine, a daughter of Sir William Gordon of Gight, and, secondly, his cousin, Margaret, daughter of Alexander Innes of that Ilk(see Note below), and Cristina Dunbar. By his second wife only he had issue ... "

from Scots Peerage (vol 7)

Note:

Other sources place Margaret Innes as the granddaughter, not the daughter of Alexander Innes of that Ilk. She is said to have been the daughter of his son James Innes:

"Catherine (Gordon) died in or before the following year (after 24 May 1543), when a. Papal Dispensation was issued for James's second marriage with a cousin Margaret Innes - (Familie of Innes, 21) - and they had a conjunct infeftment from the Bishop of Moray, of Findrassie 27 April 1545 - (Deeds, XXI., f. 108) - and on 1 August 1545, a Crown Charter of Tullyfoff on the resignation of James Innes of Cromie. (Great Seal, No. 3144.) [....]

In the Seton papers, Margaret is described as 'daughter of Innes of Leuchars,' and this person is evidently James Innes variously designed as 'of' and 'in' Leuchars, and who first appears as 'James Innes, son of Alexander Innes of that ilk' in witnessing a charter dated at Kinnairdy Castle 1 May 1514 - (Gt. Seal, III., 34.) - and he is first designated Leuchars when witnessing Alexander Innes of Plaidds' Discharge for the Third-Part of Rothmakenzie, 10 March 1536. (Familie of Innes, 1100.)"

from The Barony of Crommey

"Margaret, daughter of Innes of Leuchars, and widow of James Innes of Fynnarsie (Seton's 'History of the Setons,' i. 464-5)."

from Gordons of Cairnfield 1 2 4 5

Margaret next married William GORDON of Arradoul, son of Alexander GORDON 2nd of Buckie, Constable of Bog of Gight and Isabella DRUMMOND.2 (William GORDON of Arradoul was born about 1530 and died before December 1587 2.)

  Marriage Notes:

"William Gordon of Arradoul, according to the Balbithan MS., was the second son of Alexander Gordon of Buckie .... The Balbithan MS. says that he married the 'Lady Innes.' .... While still the wife of William Gordon she bore Seton two illegitimate sons, George Seton of Barra (born 1553). and James Seton, progenitor of the Setons of Pitmedden. They were legitimatised under the Great Seal on Dec. 8. 1581"

from Gordons of Cairnfield 2

Margaret next married William SETON 5th of Meldrum, son of Alexander SETON 4th of Meldrum and Daughter GORDON.2 (William SETON 5th of Meldrum was born about 1515 and died in 1571 6.)

  Marriage Notes:

"While still the wife of William Gordon she (Margaret Innes) bore Seton two illegitimate sons, George Seton of Barra (born 1553). and James Seton, progenitor of the Setons of Pitmedden. They were legitimatised under the Great Seal on Dec. 8. 1581, which describes them as the bastards begot by 'quondam William Seyton de Meldrum et Margaret Innes, tunc conjugem William Gordon de Arrandoule' (sic.)"
