"George Gordon of Leichestoun married, according to the Balbithan MS., 'the goodman of Birkenburn's daughter, with whom he begat three sons and two daughters,' the names of whom are not given."
from Leichestoun
Note:
In the Birkenburn section of Cadets of Lesmoir, Barbara Gordon is listed in the children of Alexander 3rd of Birkenburn:
"4. Barbara appears in the Lyon Register."
and in the children of James 4th of Birkenburn:
"5. Barbara (?), the wife of George Gordon, III. of Leichestoun, may have been the daughter of James, IV. of Birkenburn."
In this passage from the Leichestoun section:
"1653, August 2. Sasine on charter of alienation granted by George Gordon of Leichistoun, with consent of Barbara Gordon his spouse, in favour of James Gordon, eldest lawful son and apparent heir of the said George, and Marie Gordon his spouse, in conjunct-fee, and the heirs lawfully gotten or to be gotten of them in fee, whom failing to the said James's heirs and assignees whomsoever, of the town and lands of Leischtoune, in the lordship of Enzie, parish of Rathven, and shire of Banff: dated at Leichiestoun April 29, 1653, Alexander Gordon, elder of Birkinburn : and John Gordon second lawful son of the said George Gordon, are witnesses. Sasine on August 1, 1653. John Gordon in Dryburne is bailie. The charter is written by Master James Gordon in Greenmyre (Particular Register of Sasines, Banff, vol. vi., fol. 229)."
it is noteworthy that it is "Alexander Gordon, elder of Birkinburn" who is a witness in the legal proceedings for the Birkenburn Gordons, which may indicate that it was he who was Barbara's father and the Birkenburn grandfather of the James Gordon in question. 1 2
