  General Notes:

"1607, October 3. - John Leith of Harthill is cautioner for James Gordon, apparent of Lesmoir, in £2000, and the said James for Alexander Burnett of Leys [his brother-in-law], Burnett, his eldest son [nephew], Alexander Gordon of Lesmoir [his father], James Gordon, his [own] eldest son, George Bannerman of Waterton [his brother-in-law], and Alexander Bannerman, his eldest son [nephew], in £2000 each : and for Thomas Burnet of Annetis, Alexander Burnet of Cluny, and George Gordon of Inverrie, £1000 each, and for Alexander Gordon, brother of the laird of Inverrie,- Gordon of Buntie, and William Gordon of Sauchin, 500 merks each, not to harm William Hay of Urie or Alexander Hay, his brother. This bond was signed at Edinburgh Privy Council Register). These were heavy obligations for an eldest son."

from Lesmoir

"On July 23, 1612, Sir Thomas Hamilton of Byres, the King's Advocate, and Alexander Bannerman of Waterton, and others, complained to the Council that Patrick and Adam Gordon, brothers of George Gordon (later 6th) of Gight, pursued Bannerman and his friends for their lives in Aberdeen and wounded two of Bannerman's servants. Moreover, they 'daily since this assault and insolence hes borne and worne hagbutis and pistolletis, and ridden and gon thairwith publictlie and avowedlie in all pairtis' of the country to attack pursuers. The Lords find defenders guilty of the assault and wounding, and ordain them therefore to enter in ward in the Tolbooth of Edinburgh, there to remain at their own expense till further order be taken with them in the matter, but assoilzie them from the charge of having worn hagbuts and pistolets, pursuers having failed in proving that particularly."

"In June, 1612, Adam (Gordon of Gight family) and his friend Francis Hay of Logierieve, who was to kill him three years later, and his brother Patrick Gordon, attacked Alexander Bannerman of Waterton and two of his servants 'to the effusion of thair blood in grite quantities' (Privy Council Register)."

from Gight

"1633. Mutual discharge and confirmation between Alexander Bannerman, formerly of Watertoun, and now of Elsick, Sir George Johnstone of that Ilk, Bart., and William Forbes of Tolquhon, recites that, in May, 1611, the said Alexander Bannerman sold and disponed the land of Abbotshall, &c., to John Johnston of Caskieben, father of Sir George, and that, on the 20th January, 1616, the said George Johnston of Caskieben disponed, these lands to William Forbes of Tolquhon, by deed registered at Aberdeen, 7th May, 1625 ; but none of the said parties having ever been infeft, Alexander Bannerman grants a precept for that purpose, and the other parties join in a mutual release."

Alexander married Margaret FORBES, daughter of William FORBES 8th of Tolquhon and Janet OGILVY.1 (Margaret FORBES was born about 1599.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Sir (see Note 2 below) Alexander Bannerman of Elsick is the son of Alexander (see Note 1 below) Bannerman of Elsick and Elizabeth Johnston. Note:

1

The husband of Elizabeth Johnston was George Bannerman, not Alexander. He succeeded his father, Alexander, in 1609.

2

Other sources do not designate George Bannerman's son, Alexander, as 'Sir' Alexander'. Later a grandson of Alexander Bannerman and Margaret Forbes was designed 'Sir Alexander Bannerman', having been created a Baronet by King Charles II.
1

Alexander next married Marjory LESLIE, daughter of Sir John LESLIE 6th of Wardis, Baronet and Elspet GORDON.2 (Marjory LESLIE was born about 1608.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Marjory (Leslie), married, first, to Sir Alexander Bannerman of Elsick, and, secondly, to Sir John Fletcher, King's Advocate."
