When Francis was born in 1884, his father, James, gave notice of his birth before the registrar at Airdrie, George Andrew, Junior, on 23 October 1884.

The 1891 census recorded Francis and his family living in Rose Street in Hutchesontown Glasgow. His age was recorded as 6 years of age and his birthplace as Airdrie.

Francis McCormick was the informant of his mother, Elizabeth's death in 1911 at Carluke. Her death certificate recorded that he had been present where the death took place, and that his address then was 48 New Wynd, Trongate, Glasgow.
