  General Notes:

On 13 July 1851 a 'Francis McInern' was a witness at the marriage of Philip Gorman and Elizabeth Quine at St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie. The second witness was Johanna Abercromby. The officiating priest was Father J. Buckley.

In 1859 the sponsors at the baptism of Francis, son of Patrick McInerney and Catherine McConvill in St Margaret's Airdrie were Francis Mcinerney and Jane McInerney.

When Francis married in November 1860 his age was recorded as 25 years. His wife was aged 30 years, so it is likely he would not have made himself younger than he actually was. His occupation was 'navie'.

The 1861 census for New Monkland recorded Francis and Agnes McNarney living at 30 Alexander Street in Airdrie. Francis was a labourer and spirit dealer by occupation. He was recorded as 29 years old and born in Ireland. In the household there was also three step-daughters of Francis, Margaret, Agnes and Helen Welsh, and his "mother in law" (probably his wife's mother in law) Mary Welsh.

Francis, his wife, two stepdaughters and a son were recorded as a household living at 30 Alexander Street, Airdrie, by the census of 1871. Francis was a spirit dealer by occupation. He had been born in Ireland and was aged 39 years.

In 1881, the census for New Monkland recorded Francis McNairney as head of the household at 28 Alexander Street, Coatbridge. As well has himself, the household consisted of his stepdaughter, Agnes Welsh, his two granddaughters, Agnes and Sarah Delaney, and a female servant, Janet Thomson, aged 23 years, born in Airdrie, and unmarried. Francis himself was a widower and his recorded age was 48 years. He had been born in Ireland, and was a spirit merchant by occupation.

Francis McNairney died in 1894. His death certificate recorded him as a spirit merchant, married to Agnes Murie or Welsh, and aged 65 years. Both of his parents were deceased.
NOTE In fact his wife Agnes had died some time before Francis, so the entry ought to have read 'widower of'.

When his son, Michael, died in 1929, Michael's death certificate recorded Francis as a 'spirit merchant (deceased)'. 2 4 5 6

  Medical Notes:

T. P. Gemmell MB certified the causes of death.

George Mulvey, an acquaintance of the deceased man, of 113 High Street, Airdrie, gave notice of the death of Francis before the registrar, George Andrew, at Airdrie on 31 October 1894 .

Francis married Agnes MURIE, daughter of David MURRAY and Euphemia DALE, on 25 November 1860 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Agnes MURIE was born on 12 August 1830 in Fife, Scotland 2 7 and died 26 December 1880 at 6.10 am in 30 Alexander Street, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of her death was carcinoma uteri over 2 years.

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage between Francis and Agnes took place according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father Duncan McNab of St Margaret's Airdrie. The witnesses were Patrick McInerney and Agnes Fulton.

Francis' age was recorded as 25 years. He was a 'navie' by occupation and a bachelor. His place of residence was noted as 'Airdrie'. He made his X mark in the register.

Agnes was aged 30 years and of Airdrie, like Francis. She too was unmarried. The name 'Murie' was written for her and then crossed out. The registrar notes 'Walsh as in schedule C'.

The marriage was registered by the registrar, W. M. Landless, at Airdrie on 26 November 1860. Agnes signed the register and Francis made his X mark. 1
