from Scots Peerage (vol 4) 1 3

James married Catherine BORTHWICK, daughter of William BORTHWICK 4th Lord Borthwick and Margaret HAY.1 2 (Catherine BORTHWICK was born about 1495.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Catherine (Borthwick), married to Sir James Crichton of Frendraught."

from Scots Peerage (vol 2)

"He (James Crichton) died about 1536, having married Catherine, eldest daughter of William, fifth Lord Borthwick, and had issue"

from Scots Peerage (vol 4)

Note:

The Scots Peerage, volumes 2, and 4 place Catherine Borthwick as the daughter of William, 5th Lord Borthwick. The age discrepancy between her and James Crichton would have been very great in this case. Given the degree of confusion about the different Lords Borthwick, she has been placed as his sister, rather than as his daughter. 1 2
