LUNDIE, Margaret 1Another name for Margaret was LUNDIN, Margaret.2 User ID: M676. General Notes: "He (John Lundie) had one daughter, Margaret. Lundie should have passed to John's brother George Lundie in Satlgrien upon John's death, but due to an agreement between George Lundie, and his niece's future husband, Robert Maitland, Lundie passed to Margaret. John is therefore sometimes considered the last laird, as he is the last of the name Lundie to hold the barony." Margaret married Robert MAITLAND, son of John MAITLAND 2nd Lord Thirlestane, then Earl of Lauderdale, Viscount Maitland and Isobel SETON, before 25 April 1648.1 2 (Robert MAITLAND was born on 11 March 1623,2 died on 15 December 1658 2 and was buried on 23 December 1658 in Largo Church, Fife, Scotland 2.). The cause of his death was consumption. Marriage Notes: "John died in 1647, and was succeeded to Lundie by his daughter Margaret. She had married Robert Maitland, second son of the Earl of Lauderdale, and Robert adopted the name Lundie. Margaret was succeeded by her daughter Sophia Lundin, who was married to John Drummond (later Earl of Melfort), the second son of James Drummond 3rd Earl of Perth. Their children would again take the name Lundin, but three generations later, the surname of Lundin was dropped for Drummond and Lundin was sold. The male descendants of the marriage of Sophia Lundin and John Drummond had become the heirs to the Earldom of Perth, and the sale of Lundin was required to pay the legal fees in obtaining the title and estates." |
