The 1881 census for the parish of Skene in Aberdeenshire recorded George Webster living at no 6 Garlogie Mill Cottage, with his grandparents, and his mother. George Webster was recorded as 10 years of age and had been born in the parish of Old Machar in Aberdeenshire.

In 1891 James Strachan was head of a small household living at 7 Orchard Place in the parish of Old Machar, Aberdeen. The census of that year recorded James living with his daughter, Catherine Webster, and his grandson, George Webster. George Webster was recorded as a clerk by occupation. He was 20 years of age according to the entry, and had been born in Aberdeen.

George Webster, grandson of James Strachan and inmate, who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice of his grandfather's death, at Gilcomston, before the registrar, James Meston, at Aberdeen on 6 June 1894.
