"Daniel Jamieson Hooker & his spouse Rachel Strachan had a daughter born named Catharine Helen Thomson, baptized by the Revd Mr Doig in presence of James Strachan, Bookbinder, and John Craig Wright in Aberdeen"



In 1851 the census for Skene Parish, Aberdeenshire, recorded Katherine Strachan living at Garlogie Wool Mill with her husband and five children aged from 17 years to 3 years. Two visitors, Margaret Deans and a child, John Deans, were also living there. Katherine's age was recorded as 43 years and her birthplace as Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire.



The 1881 census for the parish of Skene in Aberdeenshire recorded Catherine Strachan living at no 6 Garlogie Mill Cottage, with her husband, their daughter, Catherine, and their grandson, George Webster. Catherine Strachan was recorded as 71 years of age and had been born in Old Machar parish in Aberdeenshire. She was recorded as a mill wright's wife by occupation. 4


Catharine married James STRACHEN, son of James STRACHEN 'Drumnagarrow' and Ann McKENZIE, on 29 May 1830 in Saint Nicholas parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.1 2 (James STRACHEN was baptised on 30 September 1807 in Glenbucket parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 4 7 and died 5 June 1894 at 1.25 pm in 43 Gilcomston Park, Aberdeen, Scotland.). The cause of his death was bronchitis over 14 days.
