CORNFIELD, James ²

   Cause of his death was dysentery.

  General Notes:

In the marriage certificate of his son, John Cornfield, dated 1857, James Cornfield was recorded as an agricultural labourer.

James Cornfield was a hawker of crockery, according to the 1861 census for Hamilton.

In the 1865 marriage certificate of his daughter, Ellen, he was recorded as a 'hawker'.

In 1871 the census for Blantyre recorded him as a collier.

When James Cornfield died in March 1874, his death certificate recorded him as aged 74 years, a coal miner, and married to Catherine Devine. Both of his parents were deceased.

When his daughter, Mary, married in 1874, James Cornfield was recorded in her marriage certificate as having been a coal pit fireman, but the next day, the date of the marriage certificate of his daughter, Catherine, he was noted as a coal miner.

In 1880 when his daughter Catherine married Robert Sherry, James Cornfield was recorded as a coal miner and was deceased.

James Cornfield was recorded as a coal miner in the death certificate of his daughter, Catherine, in 1916. ^{2 3 4}

James married Catherine DEVINE, daughter of John DEVINE and Catherine VALLELY, in 1833 in County Monaghan, Ireland.¹ (Catherine DEVINE was born in 1808 in Ireland ^{3 4} and died 8 October 1884 at 5.00 am in Stonefield, Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland ^{3 4}.). The cause of her death was broncho pneumonia.
