   Cause of her death was gallstones, obstructive jaundice and hypostatic pneumonia.

   Other names for Catherine were LINDSAY, Catherine,1 SHERRY, Catherine 3 and SHIRRA, Catherine.

  General Notes:

Catherine Cornfield died in 1916. Her death certificate recorded that she had been married first of all to Matthew Lindsay, a coal miner, and then to Robert Sherry, also a coal miner.

When her son, Matthew Lindsay, was married in 1896, Catherine, his mother, was named as ' Catherine Sherry, formerly Lindsay, maiden surname Cornfield.'

In 1897 when her daughter, Kate Lindsay, was married, Kate's mother's name was recorded as 'Catherine Shirra, formerly Lindsay, maiden surname Cornfield'.

John J. Hanley LRCP etc certified the causes of death.

Robert Sherry, widower, who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice of Catherine Cornfield's death before the registrar, James Johnston, at Motherwell on 12 April 1916.


Catherine married Matthew LINDSAY, son of Matthew LINDSAY and Margaret MORAN, on 29 October 1875 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Matthew LINDSAY was born in 1854 in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4 and died on 27 May 1878 in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was apoplexy suddenly.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland.

Matthew Lindsay was recorded as 20 years of age and Catherine Cornfield as 20 years old too.

Catherine was a cotton factory weaver and Matthew was a coal miner. Both resided in Blantyre.

Catherine made her X mark. her father, James, was deceased.

Catherine next married Robert SHERRY, son of William SHERRY and Ann FEELY, on 5 November 1880 in Stonefield, Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Robert SHERRY was born on 13 March 1857 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 5 and died on 1 July 1929 in Clydesdale Place, Overtown, Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6 7.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Reverend Peter Donnelly married the couple and the witnesses were John Coogenes and Margaret Cornfield, both of whom made their X mark.

Robert Sherry, a bachelor, was aged 22 years and of Stonefield Blantyre. He was a coal miner.

Catherine Lindsay was a widow aged 26 years and also of Stonefield Blantyre. She was a cotton factory weaver. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Blantyre on 13 November 1880. 1
