The 1881 census for Shotts parish recorded Patrick Donnelly living with his family at 4 Wyndedge Farm, Cleland. He was 17 years old and had been born born in Shotts parish, Scotland. He worked as a coal miner.

The 1891 census for Shotts parish, western district, recorded Patrick Donnelly living with his family in McAuley's property in the village of Cleland. He was recorded as 23 years of age and had been born in the parish. He was employed as a coal miner and was a single man.

The 1901 census for Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, recorded Patrick Donnelly as head of the household living at 8 Omoa Square in Omoa village, Cleland. Patrick, his wife and two small children lived there in a dwelling with one windowed room. Patrick was recorded as 35 years of age and had been born in Shotts parish. He worked as a coal miner.

The death certificate of Patrick's wife, Helen Donnelly, in 1947 recorded that she was the widow of Patrick Donnelly, coal miner.

In his death certificate of 1923 Patrick Donnelly was recorded as a coal miner and husband of Ellen McConnachie. He was erroneously recorded as 57 years old, whereas his actual age was 59. His parents Patrick Donnelly and Catherine Donnelly were deceased. 2 3 5 6 7 8

Patrick married Ellen McCONAGHY, daughter of James McCONAGHEY and Catherine DOWD, on 11 July 1895 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Ellen McCONAGHY was born on 16 September 1873 in Brown Street, Lurgan, County Armagh, Ireland 9 and died 2 January 1947 at 3.15 pm in 11 Silverburn Crescent, Newarthill, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 6 8.). The cause of her death was senility.3


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father Patrick Hackett and the witnesses were Michael McConnachie and Maggie Creaney.

Patrick Donnelly was a quarryman aged 20 years. He was unmarried and lived at Crossgates Cleland. Both of his parents, Patrick Donnelly, a miner, and Catherine Donnelly, were deceased.

Ellen McConnachie was an unmarried woman of 18 years who lived at 35 Omoa Square Cleland. 1
