  General Notes:

The 1861 census for Shotts parish recorded Patrick Donnally, aged 31 years, as head of a household living at 31 Omoa Square Cleland. Patrick lived there with his wife and four children and one lodger named Patrick Vallely, an ironstone miner, aged 30 years and Irish born. Patrick Donnally worked as a coal miner. His birthplace was Ireland.

Patrick was a coal miner, as recorded in 1872 at his daughter's marriage, and in the 1876 marriage of his son, Owen.

In 1881 Patrick Donnelly was listed as head of the household living at 4 Wyndedge Farm near the village of Cleland in the parish of Shotts. With him lived his wife, their six children and a visitor, John Donnelly, an Irish born coal miner of sixty years of age. Patrick Donnelly was aged 50 years and had been born in Ireland. He worked as a coal miner.

Patrick Donnelly, who had been present where his wife died, gave notice of his wife, Catherine's death before the registrar, William Spence, at Cleland on 30 June 1884 and made his X mark. His occupation was noted as coalminer.

In 1891 the census for Shotts parish western district recorded Patrick Donnelly, a widower, as head of a household of five people living at McAuley's property in the village of Cleland. The other four people were Patrick's children. Patrick whose age was recorded as 63 years had been born in Ireland and was an unemployed coal miner.

In 1893 when Patrick's daughter, Bridget, married in Cleland, her parents were both deceased. Patrick Donnelly was recorded in the marriage certificate as a coal miner.

No record of Patrick's death has been found in Scotland's People, website of the General Register Office of Scotland, despite Patrick's death having taken place in Scotland. An enquiry resulted in this reply from one of the Family History Officers:
"I've had a look at our records and I regret there is no trace of a death for Patrick Donnelly. There is not an index for Records of Corrected Entries as these are attached to the main death certificate. Unfortunately, it just looks like the death has never been officially registered." 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
