  General Notes:

Alex. S. Nisbet gave notice of the birth of his son George Sandilands Nisbet. His occupation was recorded as moulder.

The 1871 census recorded George as 8 years old. He was a scholar and lived with his family at 1 Milne Square, Edinburgh. He had been born in Haddington.

George Nisbet was recorded as aged 19 by the 1881 census. He had been born in Haddington, was unmarried and lived with his parents at 5 Brown Street, Edinburgh. He was a moulder by trade like his father.

In 1887 George's brother William married Margaret Caldwell in Newington Edinburgh. One of the witnesses was named as G. Nisbet. In all probability it would have been George Nisbet.

The 1891 census for Edinburgh, recorded George Nisbet living at 7 Brown Street. He worked as an iron moulder and was recorded as 29 years of age.

When George died in 1937 his age was recorded as 75. He was married, twice in fact: first to Jeanie Tumble and later to Mary Wilson/Graham. He died in hospital, his usual residence being noted as Craigmillar, Leith. He had been a retired iron moulder. 3 4 6

  Research Notes:

PARENT STATUS

There is some certainty that George Sandilands Nisbet and Mary Wilson were the adoptive parents of George Morrison Nisbet. There is also some certainty that Mary Higgins was his biological mother. There is doubt about who his biological father was. The DNA testing that might assist in this has not yet taken place.

  Medical Notes:

George's widow, Mary Graham or Wilson, gave notice of his death. 4
