No birth or baptism record for Patrick McGunnigal has been found as yet.
In the 1871 census Patrick was recorded living with his family in Chapelhall. He was a single man, aged 18 years. He worked as a blastfurnacekeeper, and had been born in Ireland.
In 1874 Patrick gave notice of the birth of his son, James. He informed the registrar, William Richard, on 26 November 1874, at Holytown, and entered his X mark. His occupation was recorded as labourer at the iron works.
When Patrick was widowed in 1874, his wife's death certificate recorded him as a coal miner.
According to the 1881 census, Patrick was living, as a husband and father, next door to his parents, James and Margaret McGonegal, and his brothers, John, James and Michael, in Biggar Road, Chapelhall. His occupation was furnace keeper. His age was noted as 28 years.
Patrick's son, John, was born in 1882 at Chapelhall, and Patrick was the informant. His occupation was recorded as 'blastfurnace keeper'. He made his X mark before William Richard, registrar, at Holytown, on 22 February 1882.
John, Patrick's son, died, aged 7 years, in May 1889. It was Patrick who notified the registrar of John's death, and made his X mark. Patrick was recorded as a labourer at an ironworks.
The son of Patrick and Catherine, also called Patrick was born in 1889, at Stevenson's Land, Chapelhall. His birth certificate recorded his father, Patrick, as a quarryman. His father informed the registrar his son's birth and made his X mark. The certificate notes the marriage date and place of the baby's parents as 27 January 1881, at Holytown.
The 1891 census for Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, recorded Patrick McGunnigal living at Paddock Street, with his wife Cathrine and his three children, James, Mary and Patrick. Patrick, born in Ireland, was aged 35 years, and worked as a railway labourer.
The census of 1901 also recorded the family. They were living at 14 Clyde Square, in the western part of Old Monkland parish. Patrick was a furnace labourer by occupation. His age was noted as 46 years, and his birthplace as Ireland. As well as his wife, only one child was living with him, their son, Patrick.
Patrick McGunnigal's death certificate in 1920 recorded him as an electrician's labourer. It also recorded his age as 62 years.
When Patrick's son Patrick married in July 1920 Patrick senior was deceased. He was recorded as an electrician's labourer by occupation.
When his son, James, died in 1930, Patrick was recorded as a 'foreman labourer'.
Patrick's second wife Catherine died in 1939. In her death certificate he was recorded as a "Commission Agent." 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Patrick McGunnigal, the son of the deceased, who had been present where his father died, gave notice to the registrar, Theresa P. Monteith, at Coatbridge, on 15 May 1920.
Patrick married Mary Anne FOX on 27 November 1873 in Chapelhall, Holytown district, Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Mary Anne FOX was born about 1851 and died 22 November 1874 at 3 am in Chapelhall, Holytown district, Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 10.). The cause of her death was puerperal fever over 5 days.
Marriage Notes:
The marriage took place after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest who officiated was Father P. J. O'Gorman PP, and the witnesses were Mathew Cairns and Elizabeth Reynolds.
Patrick McGonigle was a blastfurnace filler, aged 22 years, and a bachelor. His address was simply Chapelhall. Both of his parents were still living.
Maryanne Fox, a worker in a cotton dye works, was also unmarried, and was aged 23 years. She too was of Chapelhall. Her parents, John Fox and Margaret Doyle, were both living.
The marriage was registered on 29 November 1873, at Holytown, William Richard being the signing registrar.

Patrick next married Catherine WELSH on 27 January 1881 in Chapelhall, Holytown district, Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Catherine WELSH was born about 1853 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6 11 and died on 22 March 1939 in The Home, 44 Union Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland 8 9.). The cause of her death was senile decay and cardiac degeneration.

The marriage, after banns, was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Father Hubert Van Stiphout RCC married the couple. The witnesses were Thomas Moran and Mary Rourke.
Patrick McGonagle was a widower aged 28 years. He worked as a blastfurnace keeper, and gave his address as High Rows, Chapelhall. Both of his parents were alive.
Catherine Welsh was an unmarried woman of 26 years of age. She lived at Hilltop, Chapelhall. No occupation was noted for her. Her father, John Welsh, an agricultural labourer, was alive but her mother, Catherine McMurray, was deceased.
The marriage was registered at Holytown on 29 January 1881, William Richard being the signing registrar.

The witness, Mary Rourke, may have been the later wife of Patrick's brother James.
