Patrick McGunnigal's father, also called Patrick, was a quarryman. His father it was who notified the registrar, William Richard, at Holytown, on 24 June 1889, of his son's birth. He made his X mark.

Patrick was recorded by the 1891 census, the youngest child of his family living at Paddock Street, Coatbridge. He was just 2 years of age and his birthplace was in Bothwell parish.

In 1901, Patrick was the only child living with his parents at 14 Clyde Square in Old Monkland West district. He was a scholar aged 11 years, and had been born in Bothwell parish. ^{2 3 4}

Patrick married Mary RORKE on 14 July 1920 in St Patrick's RC Church, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (Mary RORKE was born about 1890 ¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after publication of banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. John Geerty, RCC, married the couple. The witnesses were Patrick McGunnigal and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick.

The groom, Patrick McGunnigal, was a man of 30 years of age, who lived at 37 Manse Street, Coatbridge. He was single and worked as a wire drawer. His father was deceased.

Mary Rorke was single and 30 years old. She was a school teacher who lived at 17 Kildonan Street Coatbridge. Her father, James Rorke, a mason foreman, was living, but her mother, Catherine Fitzpatrick, was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Coatbridge on 14 July 1920.
