Helen's father, Thomas, was a coal miner when she was born, and it was he who notified the registrar, William Paterson, at Shotts on February 24 1870 of her birth.

Helen was one year old when the 1871 census was taken.

  Medical Notes:

William Grossart, surgeon, certified the cause of death.

Charles Vallely, Helen's brother, who was present notified the registrar Peter Paterson at Salsburgh on 3 January 1879.
