  • Died: 25 July 1966 at 1.40 pm, Law Hospital, Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland

  General Notes:

In 1891 James was the youngest of the family, living in Cleland, aged 7, a scholar.

The 1901 census for the registration district of Calton, Glasgow recorded James Vallely, aged 17 years and born in Clelland Lanarkshire, living in a household which the enumerator himself refers to rather bemusedly as a 'Catholic monastery'. In some ways it was also a teacher training centre. It was situated at 84 Henrietta Street, now renamed Orr Street. It sat between Bridgeton Cross and St Mary's RC Church in Abercrombie Street. James Vallely was a boarder there and a pupil teacher.

In 1919 James notified the registrar of the death of his brother Joseph. James's address was recorded then as Scarhill, Cleland.

In 1923 James was the informant of the death of his brother Thomas. James then lived at Roselea, Cleland.

James Vallely, who had been present, of Roselea, Bellside Road, Cleland, gave notice of his sister Annie Vallely's death before the registrar, Alexander Craig, at Cleland on April 20th 1933.

In his death certificate of 1966 James, a retired headmaster, was recorded as aged 83 at his death. He was a widower and his spouse had been Alice McConville. At the time of his death his address was 95 Biggar Road Cleland. 1 2
