  • Died: 3 March 1923 at 5.30 am, 80 Biggar Road, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland

   Cause of his death was acute bronchitis and congestion over 6 days, and heart failure over 6 days.

   Other names for Thomas were VALELLY, Thomas 1 and VALLALEY, Thomas.2

  General Notes:

Thomas' father, who had been present, gave notice of his son's birth to the registrar at Shotts, William Paterson, on 22 August 1872. He signed his name as 'Vallely' even though the registrar himself used the spelling 'Vallaley'.

In the 1881 census Thomas was aged 8 years and still a scholar.

In 1891 Thomas was living in Cleland area, aged 18 years, unmarried and a coalminer.

In 1901 the census recorded Thomas Valelly, a single man, living with a group of his brothers and sisters at Windyedge near Cleland in Shotts Parish. Thomas was recorded as 27 years of age and worked as a coal miner. He had been born in Shotts.

In 1923 Thomas died. His death certificate recorded that he was then aged 50 years, single, and a coal miner. Both of his parents were deceased.

An entry in the Probate Calendar for Scotland reads as follows:
"Vallely, Thomas, Miner, 18 Biggar Road, Cleland, died 3 March 1823 at Cleland, testate. Inventory given up at Airdrie, 27 December, by James Vallely, Roselea, Cleland, Executor. Will dated 2 March, recorded Airdrie 27 December 1923. Value of Estate £28 :2 :4. " 1 3 4

John Lithgow MD MS certified the causes of death.

James Vallely of Roselea Cleland, brother of the deceased man, and who had been present, gave notice before Janet Craig, registrar, at Cleland on 4 March 1923.
