When Catherine Quin died in 1900 her death certificate recorded her as 24 years of age and 'married to John Vallely coalminer'. Both of her parents were still living. 2 3

George Buchan MD CM certified the cause of death.

John Vallely, Catherine's husband who was present, gave notice of his wife's death before the registrar, William McGill, at Cleland on 28 December 1900. 3


Catherine married John VALLELY, son of Thomas VALLELY and Catharine QUIN, on 22 April 1897 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (John VALLELY was born 20 August 1867 at 6 pm in Greenhill, Shotts Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4 and died on 5 January 1906 in Ashfield Place, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4 5.). The cause of his death was chronic nephritis; cerebral haemorrhage.3


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was a Roman Catholic one, Fr Patrick Hackett being the celebrating priest. The witnesses were Thomas Vallely and Susan English.

John, a bachelor of 28, was a coal miner, of Wyndedge Farm West District of Shotts parish. His father, a coal miner too, was deceased and his mother still living.

Catherine was an unmarried woman of 21 from Cleland. She was a domestic servant. Both of her parents were living at the time of the marriage.

The marriage was registered on 24 April 1897 at Cleland, William Spence being the registrar. 1
