  General Notes:

William, lawful son of William Quin and Mary Valleley, was baptised by Fr Alex Smith in St Margaret's Airdrie in November 1843. Patrick Shiels and Margaret Quin were his baptismal sponsors.

William Quin was recorded by the 1851 census for New Monkland living at 27 Baird's Square in the Rawyards district of Airdrie. He was recorded as 6 years old and had been born in New Monkland parish.

William Queen was recorded by the 1861 census for New Monkland living at South East farm with his family. He was the second eldest child living there of 7 children. He had been born in New Monkland parish and was recorded as 15 years of age. He worked as a coal miner.

In 1875 a William Quin gave notice of the death of his cousin Margaret Valloly [sic], daughter of Edward valloly and Ellen Quin, in New Monkland parish. It may have been this man.

The 1881 census for New Monkland recorded William, his wife and 7 children living at Ballochney. William was aged 35 and had been born at South Stanrigg Lanarkshire. He was an iron miner. 3 4 5 6 7


William married Agnes MORELAND, daughter of John MORELAND and Mary McKELL, on 27 May 1867 in St Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Agnes MORELAND was born in 1846 in Ballochney, New Monkland Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was Thomas H. Donnelly Catholic Clergyman. The witnesses were Hugh Devlin and Jane Macleod, both of whom made their X mark.

William Quin, who made his X mark, was an unmarried man who worked as a coal miner. He lived in Plains and his recorded age was 22.

Agnes Moreland, who also made her X mark, was a paper mill worker and single. She too lived in Plains and was 20 years old. Both of her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered on May 29 1867 at Airdrie, the registrar being William Whyte. 2
