   Other names for Elizabeth were GEBBIE, Elisabeth,⁶ GEBBIE, Elizabeth,^{1 3 4 7 10} HENDRIE, Elisabeth ^{5 11} and HENRY, Elizabeth.²

  General Notes:

On 20 September 1855 Elizabeth Gebbie notified the registrar at Baillieston of the birth of her son Robert on the 4th of the same month. The child was registered as having been born at Commonhead, an area slightly to the north of modern Baillieston, in the parish of Old Monkland. Some biographical details were included in the 1855 'long' certificate: William Gebbie, Robert's father, was recorded as a coal miner aged 44 years born in Glasgow; Elizabeth Gebbie, whose maiden surname is recorded as hendry, was 38 years of age and born in Glasgow. The couple were marriage, so the record here goes, in Paisley in 1848, and Robert was Elizabeth's eight child, since she had given birth to seven boys earlier, five of whom were still living. These are the details as the birth certificate sets them out, and to which Elizabeth signed her name.
Note: It is known from other sources that not all of these details are in fact correct. ³

Elizabeth married William GEBBIE, son of James GEBBIE and Janet LOCKHART, in March 1838 in Abbey Parish, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (William GEBBIE was born on 31 May 1811 in Carnwath Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ^{5 6 7 12}, baptised on 22 July 1811 in Carnwath Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ^{5 12} and died after 3 April 1877 ⁴.)
