The 1851 census recorded Charles Gebbie living in Old Monkland parish, but as born in Barony parish Lanarkshire. He was 10 months old .

The 1861 census recorded the birthplace of Charles and Andrew as Old Monkland, whereas the 1851 recorded them as born in Glasgow. It may have been Baillieston, technically in Old Monkland parish but not far from the city of Glasgow. ^{2 3}
