John Cavanagh, Robert's father, gave notice of his son's birth before James Burdon, registrar, at Old Monkland on 7 July 1855 and made his X mark.

Robert Cavanagh was baptized on 15 July 1855 by Father John Irwin. His godparents were Robert Kavanagh and Elizabeth Kavanagh.

In 1861 the census recorded Robert Cavanagh, aged 5 years and born in Glasgow, living with his parents at 102 Possil Road Maryhill.

Robert Cavenahg [sic] was recorded by the 1870 US census for Cranberry, Venango, Pennsylvania, living with his parents and siblings there. He was recorded as born in Scotland and aged 11 years, younger than he actually was.

Nothing has been found regarding Robert after the 1870 census entry. ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵
