Alexander Feely, son of John Feely and Ellon [sic] Campbell, was baptised by Father James Danaher in St Mary's RC Chapel, Hamilton on 30 April 1871. Alexander's birth date was noted in the extract written and signed by Father Danaher as having been the 17 April 1871. Catherine Donnelly was his godmother.
Alexander's father, John, died in 1874 when Alexander was an infant. The 1881 census for 19 Vennel Street, Stewarton, Ayrshire recorded an Alexander Feely who was a lodger, aged 7 years and born in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. He was a scholar. He was one of six lodgers, mostly middle aged or elderly, who resided in the household of Helen Colville, a lodging house keeper, whose daughter and brother also resided there.

Alexr Feeley alias McPhail applied for relief on 13 February 1903, reference no 9209. His residence was given as Barlinnie prison; (no rent; no entry for number of apartments). The inspector's visit took place the same day.
His place of birth was Ropespinners Close, Hamilton. He was a single man, aged 32 years, a Roman Catholic. He was a cutler by occupation. He was recorded as wholly destitute and wholly disabled, the disablement certified as DTs. He had no earnings and no means of earning.
His parents were John Feeley, miner, and Helen Campbell. There was an aunt (this underlined in red) address being Mr Thomas in Bellshill. 9/2/03- 7/6d or five days for being drunk and incapable. At Wishaw. Was in the 2nd Batt. R.S.Fusiliers (Militia) from 14 years (of age). has no pension.
