   Cause of her death was old age and debility.

   Other names for Mary were DALY, Mary,³ DEANIE, Mary, LYNCH, Mary ^{1 2} and LYNCH BOYLE, Mary.⁴

  General Notes:

The 1861 census recorded Mary Lynch and her family living in the village of Nitshill, in the parish of Abbey Landward, Renfrewshire, Scotland. They lived in a dwelling which had one room that was windowed. Mary was aged 50 years. She had two grown up sons and one grandson, living with her. Her grandson was born in Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, and was not at school.

In the 1871 census Mary's name was recorded as "Mary Lynch Boyle". This appears, from family relationships, to be the wrong way round: it seems she had been married to a man surnamed Boyle, before her marriage to James Lynch, since Mary's daughter is also given the name "Bridget Lynch Boyle" and is designated in the entry as the stepdaughter of James Lynch. Mary was recorded as 70 years of age and had been born in Ireland.

At her death in 1878, Mary was recorded as 63 years of age. She was a widow by then, and still living in Nitshill. ⁴

It is difficult to determine just when Mary was born. The little we know of her age suffers from the phenomenon found frequently at this time: a pre-numerate community required to give details for a modern bureaucratic system. It's likely from the ages of her children that she was born around 1800.

The certifying doctor was Robert Corbett.

Her grandson, William Lynch, who was present where the death occurred, notified the registrar of Mary's death, and signed the registrar on 27 March 1878.

Mary married.

Mary next married James LYNCH, son of James LYNCH and Ellen McCANN. (James LYNCH was born about 1802 in Ireland ⁵ and died 19 April 1874 at 1.30 pm in Nitshill, Abbey Landward Parish, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was old age and diarrhoea lasting 2 weeks.
