Montgomerie Steven senior was recorded in the 1841 census living with his wife and family in Brewland Street, possibly number 6, near Old Manse Close in Galston Ayrshire. He was a muslin handloom weaver aged 47 and was born in the county of Ayr.

Montgomery Steven was a cotton weaver, according to the marriage certificate of his son, also Montgomery, in 1885.

In 1897 Montgomery Steven's son, also Montgomery, died in Galston. In his death certificate his father was recorded as 'Montgomery Steven cotton weaver deceased'. ^{2 4}

Montgomery married Elizabeth CONNAL. (Elizabeth CONNAL was born in 1794 in Ayrshire, Scotland ³.)
