In 1851 the UK census for Byker, Newcastle Upon Tyne, recorded William Quigley as head of a household living in Gardner's Buildings. With him lived his wife, Ann, their son and daughter and one lodger. Catherine, their, daughter, was 5 years old and had been born in Newcastle On Tyne.

The 1861 census recorded Catherine Quigley living in the household of her grandmother Elizabeth Moffet at All Saints, Newcastle, England. She was 15 years old and had been born in Newcastle Upon Tyne. ^{2 3}
