QUIGLY, Margaret 1

General Notes:
Roman Catholic Records St Mirin's RC Parish Paisley Renfrewshire Baptisms
"Baptismal Register 1832 Margaret lawful daughter of J. Quigly and Catharine Lynas born the third of September was baptised the same day sine ceremonies which were afterwards supplied AD 1832 sponsors Thomas Quigly and Catharine Fullarton (signed) John Bremner"
Note: the phrase "sine ceremonies" (without formal ceremonies or rites) indicates that the baby was very probably baptised immediately or very soon after delivery, and privately at home or where the delivery took place, but not in a church ceremony, because of danger of death. It may not have been a priest who baptised the child, although the baptism, as is seen above, was subsequently recorded in the parish register. In case of necessity baptism can be performed by anyone, by pouring water on the head of the child and by articulating the intention which is that of the Church to baptise saying "I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
Since Margaret is not listed with her family in the 1841 census, it is very probable that she died at a young age, possibly soon after birth. 1 2 3
