In 1851 the census for Bothwell parish recorded a woman of 22 years of age called Jean Crow residing at the household of George McMillan in Monkey Row. George was the head of the household consisting of himself, his wife, Jean Crow his 'stepdaughter', and Mary McMillan his daughter. He was 44 years of age and born in Ireland. He had formerly been an ironstone miner. His wife, Mary, was 57 years old and was also born in Ireland. Jean Crow and Mary McMillan were both born in Dundonald, Ayrshire, and both worked as tambourers. Mary was 20 years of age and Jean Crow was 22 years of age.

In May 1855, Mary, daughter of Robert Cavanagh and Martha Crawford, was baptized in St Patrick's, Coatbridge. James Cavanagh and Jane Cavanagh were her godparents.

The 1861 census for Brewster Ford Place, Holytown, Lanarkshire, recorded a widow, Jean Cavanagh, aged 34 years. Her son, John, aged 6 years, and her daughter, Elizabeth, aged 2 years, both born in Bothwell parish, were also listed.

Jane Cavanagh, a widow and a mother, was recorded by the 1871 census living in School Row, Holytown, with her son, John, and daughter, Mary. Jane was recorded as having been born in Irvine, Ayrshire, and aged 36 years. She worked as a washerwoman.

In 1881, Jane Crow, widow, was recorded by the census living at 45 Dixon Street, Blantyre. She was recorded as aged 50 years. Elizabeth Crow, her daughter, was recorded as aged 21 years, and Mary Crow, another daughter, was recorded as aged 18 years.

In 1891 the census entry for Annsfield Place, Blantyre, showed Jane Crow, recorded as aged 64 years, boarding with her daughter, Mary, and Mary's husband, Andrew McAnulty. Jane's two grandchildren, Catherine and Peter McAnulty, were recorded too.

Jane's death certificate recorded her age at death as 61 years. She was described as the widow of James Cavanagh, coal miner. ^{3 6 8 11 12}

The registrar at Blantyre, James Brown, was notified on 4 January 1904 of Jane's death by her son in law Andrew McAnulty. ³

Jane married James CAVANAGH, son of Michael CAVANAGH and Mary CAMPBELL, on 4 August 1853 in St Patrick's RC Church, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (James CAVANAGH was born in 1822 in County Armagh, Ireland,^{13 14} died 12 February 1859 at 7.45 pm in East District Old Monkland Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹⁵ and was buried in February 1859 in Old Monkland Churchyard, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was Asthemic bronchitis lasting 14 days.

  Marriage Notes:

In the Old Parish Register of Bothwell parish for 1853, both James and Jane were recorded as 'both of this parish'.

The date and place given by the IGI of 10 July 1853 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland was most probably the banns of marriage.

The extract from the marriage register of St Patrick's RC parish Coatbridge written and signed in the hand of the parish priest who married the couple reads as follows:
'4 August 1853
James Cavanagh and Jane Crow were after due proclamation of banns married by me in the presence of Bernard McCartney and Mary McMullen
