  General Notes:

Patrick appears to have been the first of his family to have been born in Scotland rather than Ireland. This suggests the family came to Hamilton in the year 1865 or a bit before, but probably not earlier than 1862. The informant of Patrick's birth was his mother, Mary Feely, who gave notice before William Moffat, registrar, at Hamilton on 29 September 1865 and made her X mark. In his birth certificate Patrick was recorded as having been born on 8 September 1865 at 2.00 am at Castle Street Hamilton.

The baptismal records of St Mary's RC parish in Hamilton contain a record of Patrick's baptism written by Father James Danaher, the priest who baptised him. The details raise interest, because this record, contradicting the birth certificate, states that Patrick was born not on the 8 September but on the 8 August 1865. His baptism was recorded as 1 September 1865. His parents were referred to as 'Robert Feely and Mary Feely' and his godparents or sponsors were William McGuire and Margaret Feely.

In 1871 the census recorded Patrick living at 3 James Street Hamilton. He was aged 5 years and had been born in Hamilton, the first of his family to be born in Scotland as far as we know.

Patrick was recorded in the 1881 census for Hamilton living with his mother and seven other family members at 20 Church Street. He was unmarried, aged 15 years and had been born in Hamilton. He was employed as a coal miner.

Patrick was also recorded in the 1891 census for Hamilton. He was living with his mother and seven other family members at 21 Castle Street. He was unmarried, aged 25 years and had been born in Hamilton. He was employed as a coal miner.

The 1901 census found Patrick Feeley [sic] living in the household of Walter Maxwell, his brother in law, at 51 Viewpark Street Bellshill. Patrick was a boarder in the house, a single man recorded as aged 30 years who worked as a coal hewer.

In 1911 the census for Hamilton recorded Patrick Feeley living at 323 Glasgow Road in Burnbank, Hamilton, with his sister Ellen and her family. He was recorded as aged 45 years old and a single man who had been born in Hamilton and worked as a hewer in a coal mine.

Patrick Feeley's death certificate of 1951 recorded him as a single man, who had been a coal miner, and who was aged 85 years at the time of his death. Both of his parents were of course deceased. 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10

  Medical Notes:

E. P. Lynas MB ChB certified the causes of death.

Helen Bristow, niece of Patrick Feeley, who had been present where he died, gave notice of his death before the registrar, Robert Kyle, at Hamilton on 11 April 1951. 4
