GEORGE
Samuel George labourer and Rebecca Reid his wife both of the Church had a son baptized. Born the 22nd of the same month and named Thomas."

Thomas was recorded in the 1841 census, living with his parents and younger siblings in Crooked Holm near Kilmarnock in Ayrshire, aged between 15 and 19 years. He was a tilemaker and had been born in Ayrshire.

No record of him since then has as yet been found in Scottish death records. It may be that he died before 1855 when records of all deaths became compulsory. ^{1 2}

CHURCH STATUS

From 1821, the baptism entries for the children of Samuel and Rebecca George refer to them as 'belonging to the Church' or 'both of the Church'. This is in contrast to entries for other individuals or couples who are 'in the parish' or 'of this parish'. ³
