"ADAM HAY of Asleid, born Banff about 1647; educated at King's College, Aberdeen; inst. 22nd Sept. 1678; had a resignation of the lands of Lescraigie in his favour 30th July 1688; died April 1727. He had been suspended for a time and was with one exception the last Episcopal min. who held a benefice in the Synod...... He bequeathed two silver communion cups for the use of the parish and gave a donation of 200 merks from his lands of Asleid, the interest of which was to be applied to any poor person residing on them. [Aberdeen Tests.; Aberdeenshire Poll-Book, ii., 367; Errol Papers; Claims on Forfeited Estates, ii.,1637.]"

Scottish Episcopal Clergy mentions that Adam Hay was prosecuted after the 1715 Rising by the Presbytery of Turriff but held on to his charge




In Epitaphs and Inscriptions Mr Adam Hay "a cadet of the Erroll family" is said to have scceeded Mr Barclay "in the parish of Monwheeter". This is borne out by volume 6 of Fasti Ecclesiae.

ASLEID HOUSE

This is situated in Monquhitter parish, a little north east of Fyvie Castle, Tifty and Lethenty, and north of Methlick. 4


Adam married Anna FORBES, daughter of Alexander FORBES 3rd of Boyndlie, Tutor of Pitsligo, Covenanter and Mary ELPHINSTONE.1 2 (Anna FORBES was born about 1661.)


  Marriage Notes:

"He (Adam Hay) marr. Anna, daugh. of Alexander Forbes of Boyndlie, and had issue James, W.S., died 20th June 1771; John ; Andrew; Charles; Adam; Agnes; Anna, died Dec. 1749; Jean."
