"Adam (Hay, born 1721, Jacobite) was entered apprentice to James Hay, W.S., Edinburgh, in 1738, so that he was probably quite a youth when he joined the Jacobite movement. He was taken and convicted of treason. The forfeited estate was claimed and eventually purchased by James Hay, Clerk to the Signet, uncle and tutor to the rebel."
