"George Hay succeeded, probably about 1630. He married Agnes Guthrie, daughter of Guthrie of Guthrie, Bishop of Moray. They had issue (i) James Hay of Rannas; (2) Alexander Hay of Arnbath, who died in 1698; (3) Captain John Hay of Echries, and (4) Joseph Hay. George died in 1654, and was succeeded by his eldest son, James who appears in the suite roll of the county of 1664. "

George married Agnes GUTHRIE, daughter of Right Reverend John GUTHRIE of that Ilk, Bishop of Moray and Unknown.1 (Agnes GUTHRIE was born about 1603.)


  Marriage Notes:

"The third laird, George Hay of Rannes, married a daughter of Guthrie of Guthrie, Bishop of Moray, and was much involved in the troubled religious affairs of that diocese during the 1640s."
