James' son Arthur's death certificate in 1858 recorded him as a labourer.

In the 1861 census for Glasgow, James, his wife Eleanor, and their three small children James, Mary Ann and Arthur, were living at 77 Havannah Street in the College district. James was 33 years old and had been born in Ireland. He was a labourer. His wife was 32 years old, also Irish born. The children were 8, 6 and 1 years respectively, all born in Glasgow.

In 1864 James Lynass was the informant of the birth of his son, John, at Milton in Glasgow. He had been present where the birth occurred. James made his X mark. He was recorded as a foundry labourer in the birth certificate.

In September 1864 Jane, James' daughter, who was under 3 years of age, died of smallpox. James was recorded then as 'James Lynass labourer in a Glasgow train engine shop'

When his son, John, died in 1876 James was again the informant and made his X mark. He was recorded in the death certificate as 'James Lynas iron founders labourer'.

James died at the age of 43 years, according to his death certificate in 1880. He died a pauper but formerly he was a mason's labourer married to Helen Brady.

When his son James died in 1885, James Lynas was recorded as a 'steel work labourer deceased'.

James' daughter Ann died in 1894. He was recorded in her death certificate as 'labourer deceased'.

In the 1903 death certificate of his son Michael, James Lynas was simply recorded as 'labourer deceased'. 5 6 7 8 9 10 11

  Marriage Notes:

In the birth certificate of their son John in 1864 James Lynass, informant, told the registrar who recorded it that he and his wife were married on 16 May 1853 at Glasgow. After thorough searching , no marriage of this couple has yet been found on this or any other date.

Helen Lyness told the parish inspector in 1864, when she was registering the birth of her son James, that she was married at St Mary's in Abercromby Street. The certificate specifically mentions that there were no marriage lines seen

The Poor Law application for relief of 1879 specifically says the couple had no marriage lines. They were married 'about 27 years ago' from June 1879. 1 6 14
