According to the family's Poor Law application of June 1879 Michael was aged 12 years, not at school, and resident at Manse Lane, Cowcaddens, Glasgow.

Michael was recorded as being 13 3/4 years in February 1881 when his mother made a claim for Poor Law relief. He was a message boy.

In 1881 a woman called Ellen Lennis was recorded by the census, boarding with her two teenage children in a dwelling at 117 Maitland Street, in the Milton district of Glasgow. Ellen was a widow and Irish born. The elder of the two children boarding with her was her son Michael. The census entry recorded him as Glasgow born and aged 15 years. He was a grocer's message boy.

In February 1887 when their mother again applied for Poor Relief her sons Arthur and Michael were described as 'idle' in the family.

In a claim by his mother in June 1888, Michael was described as single and a dealer in Stirling Street.

Michael died in 1903 in the City Poorhouse, Glasgow. His death certificate recorded him as a single man who was a hawker for a living. Both of his parents were dead by then. 2 3 4 5
