  General Notes:

In 1871 the census for Hamilton recorded Bernard Lynch, aged 43 years, living with his three children, Eliza, John and Rosa, at 1 Blackwell Lane. He was a coal miner, born in Ireland.

The 1881 census for Blantyre recorded Bernard Lynch, a coal miner aged 54 years, living 'off Hamilton Road'. He was head of a family that comprised his wife Frances, his son Bernard, his daughter Rose Ann, and a grandchild named Elizabeth Russell. Bernard's place of birth was Ireland.

A Bernard Lynch, recorded as aged 74 years, and Fanny Lynch aged 66 years, were included in the 1891 census for Hamilton living at 40 Argyle Buildings. Bernard was a miner, and had been born in Ireland. They had a daughter Rose Ann, recorded as 27 years old and born in Wishaw Lanarkshire, as was her mother. Rose Ann was a servant by employment. As well as these three there were three youngsters, Maggie aged 10 years, Mary aged 5 years and James aged 2 years. These were listed as son and daughters of the head of the family, Bernard. This may have resulted from confusion, depending on who was the family member giving the information, for they are likely to have been grandchildren brought up by the older couple, the children of their daughter Rose Ann. There were also two boarders living in the household whose surname was Rea.

Bernard's death certificate of 1899 recorded him as aged 60 years at the time of death. Both his parents were deceased. His son, John Lynch, of Springfield Place, Blantyre gave notice of his father's death.

Bernard was a coal hewer according to the death certificate of his daughter Rose Ann in 1935. 1 2 3 5 6
