   Cause of her death was old age and chronic bronchitis.4

   Other names for Mary were MONAHAN, Mary,5 VALLALY, Mary,4 6 VALLELY, Mary 1 7 and VALLIDAY, Mary.2 8

  General Notes:

On 23 January 1842 a 'John Vallaley' was sponsor at the baptism of Edward McLaughlin, lawful son of James McLaughlin and Agnes O'Neal, at St Margaret's RC Chapel in Airdrie. Edward was born on 9 January 1842. Fr John O'Ryan baptised the child and the second sponsor was Mary Monaghan.

The 1851 census for Newmains in Cambusnethan parish recorded Mary Valliday living with her husband and family at 11 Burnside Row. She was aged 48 years and had been born in Ireland. Her three daughters were aged from 12 to 17 years.

On 13 April 1851 'Edward Vallely and Mary Vallely' were sponsors at the baptism at Carluke, Lanarkshire, of Mary Plunkett by Father John Black. Mary Plunkett was the lawful daughter of Thomas Plunkett and Euphemia McIntyre of Woodhall and had been born on 28 June 1850.

Mary with her husband and daughter was recorded by the 1861 census for Riccarton parish living at Portland Iron Works. She was aged 55 years and was born in Ireland.

In 1871 the census for Cambusnethan recorded Mary Valliday living with her husband and her granddaughter Mary Jane Woods at 16 Brown Street. Mary was aged 66 years and had been born in Ireland.

Mary Vallaly died in 1890. Her recorded age at death was 66 years. Her death certificate also recorded her as the widow of Edward Vallaly, ironwork furnaceman. Her parents were both dead. 2 3 4 7 8

W. MacKnight Wilson MB CB certified the cause of death.

R. Queen, the deceased's daughter who was present where the death occurred, gave notice of her mother's death before the registrar, G. Millar Buchanan, at Glasgow on 23 June 1890. 4


Mary married Edward VALLELY, son of Laurence VALLELY and Sarah RAY. (Edward VALLELY was born about 1804 in Ireland 2 3 and died on 17 December 1878 in 104 Poker Row, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 3 4 9.). The cause of his death was apoplexy over 10 days.4
