The 1851 census for the parish of Cambusnethan in Lanarkshire recorded Edward Valliday, his wife and three daughters and two lodgers, James McIlveir, aged 22 years, and Arthur Murphy aged 21 years, both Irish born, living at 11 Burnside Row Newmains. Edward had been born in Ireland and was recorded as 48 years of age. He was a labourer in the furnaces by occupation.

On 13 April 1851 'Edward Vallely and Mary Vallely' were sponsors at the baptism at Carluke, Lanarkshire, of Mary Plunkett by Father John Black. Mary was the lawful daughter of Thomas Plunkett and Euphemia McIntyre of Woodhall and had been born on 28 June 1850.

Edward Vallaly's daughter Rosan married in 1858 at Lanark. Edward was recorded as a furnaceman in her marriage certificate.

Edward, with his wife and one daughter, was recorded by the 1861 census living in the parish of Riccarton, at Portland Iron Works. He was a labourer aged 56 years and had been born in Ireland.

The 1871 census for Cambusnethan record Edward Valliday aged 60 years living with his wife Mary and their granddaughter Mary Jane Woods at 16 Brown Street. Edward was a general labourer and had been born in Ireland.

In his death certificate of 1878 Edward was recorded as only 55 years of age at death. This is very low considering other sources and is surely inaccurate. Roseann Queen, his daughter, was the informant. He was recorded as a furnace labourer married to Mary Monaghan.

Edward's wife died in 1890. Her death certificate recorded her as the widow of Edward Vallaly, ironwork furnaceman

Edward married Mary MONAGHAN, daughter of John MONAGHAN and Rosannah DONACHIE. (Mary MONAGHAN was born about 1804 in Ireland ⁴ and died 20 June 1890 at 0.45 pm in 50 Albert Street, Glasgow, Scotland ^{2 3 5}.). The cause of her death was old age and chronic bronchitis.⁷
